Oregano Oil… a powerful, all round healer in the home

“Researcher Paul Belaiche’s findings on the effectiveness of Oregano Oil against many common bacteria are impressive. He found that Oregano Oil killed 96 per cent of all pneumococcus bacteria, 92 per cent of all Neisseria, Proteus, and Staphylococcus bacteria. Neisseria can be responsible for diseases like Gonorrhoea or Meningitis.”

The growing problem of antibiotic resistance is of extreme concern. It is already the case that various germs are showing resistance to antibiotics. British researchers reported Oregano Oil had antibacterial activity against 25 different bacteria.

Nail Fungus and Oregano Oil

For both topical and internal use, Oil of Oregano is a natural antibacterial. It has been shown to be very effective in fighting yeast (candida), bacterial and fungal infections. The active ingredients in this product are Thymol and Carvacrol. It is important that you choose a reputable supplier when you buy Oregano Oil. Oil of Oregano can also be made from the Oregano Marjoram that we all use at home. Such a product would, unfortunately, have no therapeutic properties.

Taken internally, Oil of Oregano has been shown to have antibacterial action against Staphylococcus, E. coli, and Listeria, Proteus and over 25 other bacteria.  It is also used with great success to eradicate intestinal parasites. Oil of Oregano can be used to successfully eliminate excessive amounts of the yeast candida in the body.

Oregano Oil is used to successfully combat fungal infections of the nail. This common condition accounts for nearly half of all nail disorders. It starts usually with a light coloured mark under the tip of the nail, and the fungus continues to spread until the entire nail becomes thick and yellow with crumbling edges.

If no treatment is given to destroy the fungus, the condition can get dramatically worse and eventually the nail will take on a distorted shape, the colour may become green, brown, or black, and the nail may now emit a foul odour.  

Athlete's foot has been shown to respond brilliantly to regular use of Oil of Oregano.

There are no known negative drug interactions associated with Oregano Oil. However, it is quickly absorbed and should be taken with milk (or milk substitute) and food to prevent any upset stomach or heartburn. Although Oregano Oil is much gentler than many chemical treatments for nail fungus, it may irritate sensitive skin, especially around the eyes and should never usually be used on the skin at full strength. If using this volatile oil topically it should always be diluted with another pure vegetable oil. Before using this product it is wise to do an allergy test by swabbing some of the oil on the inner arm. If the skin becomes red, swollen, or itchy, do not use it on other parts of the body.

Molluscum Contagiosum

Molluscum contagiosum is a viral skin infection that causes raised, pearl-like papules or nodules on the skin.
It is a common infection in children and occurs when a child comes into direct contact with a lesion. It is usually seen on the face, neck, armpit, arms, and hands but may occur elsewhere on the body. The virus can spread through contact with contaminated objects, such as towels, clothing, or toys. The virus can also spread by sexual contact.

A letter from a  customer;

“Just thought I'd update you.  I mixed some C80 Oregano Oil with my son's regular emollient and spread it over his molluscum spots.  He did say it was burning a bit but it wasn't too uncomfortable.  The next day the molluscum spots had gone very red and had nearly black coloured scabs over them.  The spots were mostly on his left arm and his waist on the left.  Alarmingly the next day he also had a painful lymph node in the axilla on that side.  However, we could see by the end of that day that it looked as if the contents of the spots (to put it nicely) had been sort of burnt out and they resembled healing chicken pox.  The morning after this they looked a lot less red and the gland had gone down.  Neither the gland nor the spots bothered him after that.  Since then one new spot appeared but it was on his scrotum.  After watching it turn yellow, he agreed to have the oregano on it - it was extra diluted this time, just one drop in a thimbleful of cream and it didn't burn (phew!). This spot has now gone down and the others continue to heal (beyond the scab phase now, just pink marks).  It's the first time for a long time that he has had no "live" spots but obviously we don't know whether he will carry on making new ones.  He should at some point win over the virus, but that can take at least 18 months.  I'm hoping without any spots to scratch (and thus spread the virus to other broken skin), that it'll at least contain it.  I'm also hoping that the strong reaction when we blasted the spots with oregano fired up his immune system enough to put a stop to it altogether.  Well, we'll wait and see.  At least now we have something that knocks it on the head - too early to say it's a complete cure, but I wanted to report back whilst I could remember the details.”

WHEN NOT TO USE

Oregano Oil has an amazing range of helpful functions and has been used for thousands of years.

There are circumstances, however, when you should not use Oregano Oil. All health concerns should be discussed fully with your doctor.

• Oregano oil may reduce the body's ability to absorb iron. If in doubt, add iron supplements. This is one of the reasons it is contraindicated in pregnancy and pregnant women should avoid it totally.

• It has a blood thinning effect, so anyone already taking blood thinning medication should not take Oregano Oil.

• And of course, anyone who has a known allergy to thyme, basil, mint, or sage may find they have a reaction to Oregano too.
