Ketamine and Bladder Health Problems
Once again, a commonly prescribed drug that has been in use for years has been shown to have severe side effects – in this case, caused by killing cells in the bladder (and probably the entire urinary tract).

Although scientists have expressed alarm at the use of the drug recreationally, it is commonly prescribed as an anti-depressant and the result of its regular use is incontinence and bladder shrinkage, as well as damage to the kidneys and ureter in people using ketamine frequently.
Interestingly the report in the BJUI ends with the following: “In conclusion, it is important for medical practitioners who encounter patients with these symptoms to ask about recreational drug use. Ketamine remains a safe and effective drug to use under appropriate medical supervision. Patients identified as suffering from this syndrome will need to be referred to a urological unit with an interest in the treatment of the condition.”
In other words, although the drug is dangerous and quickly kills cells when it gets into the urine, [nobody seems to be asking if it is killing cells in the rest of the body], medical researchers are still recommending it for use by doctors, and are blaming any side effects on recreational use of the drug. So they don’t seem to be suggesting that doctors should even consider restricting or stopping their prescribing of this drug. Give them another ten years perhaps. Medical researchers are loathe to come to conclusions that will upset their chief paymasters.
As usual, Sweet Cures recommends that people use their common sense and ask themselves the following…
